Recycled PET, the Emilia-Romagna Region rewards ILIP’s “closed cycle”

The company from Valsamoggia (BO) has been rewarded in the “Large Enterprises” category of the “Responsible Innovators” contest, for its use of r-PET in packaging for fresh foods, fruit and vegetables.

Valsamoggia (BO), 17 December 2021 – ILIP, the ILPA Group company that leads Europe in the transformation of plastic materials, has obtained another important award on its T2T R-PET® (“Tray to Tray” in Recycled PET) project, i.e.  R-PET trays producing by recycling PET or R-PET post-consumption trays), which enjoyed great success at the Madrid “Fruit Attraction” fair last October.

The 2021 edition of the prize recorded excellent attendance, with 94 candidatures from all over the region, in particular from enterprises of all sizes and sectors, social cooperative companies, professionals, schools and training centres. The common thread of the projects presented was the contribution towards the achievement of the “Pact for work and climate” objectives, the re-launch and development action that the Region stipulated with the social parties in December 2020, based on social, economic and environmental sustainability, under the reference framework indicated by the UN with its 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

T2T R-PET®, which was ILIP’s winning project, completely succeeds in achieving the “closed loop” objective. The Bologna-based company in fact uses its latest generation technology to produce trays for packaging fresh foods and fruit and vegetables, recycling both PET bottles (those commonly used for soft drinks and mineral water) and post-consumption PET trays and punnets, for an authentic complete recovery of the raw materials.

“We are truly honoured to have received this prize from the Emilia-Romagna Region” Nicola Ballini, General Manager of ILIP Srl, declares. – “The T2T R-PET® project is an extremely important milestone for our company. Having successfully created food trays recycling post-consumption PET or R-PET trays and punnets within our Group means having achieved a truly sustainable proposal in the pursuit of a properly closed loop in the recovery of packaging, with up to 100% recycled content. Therefore all ILIP’s R-PET packaging is produced not only with bottles, but also with recycled PET trays and punnets”.

Today, the recycling capacity installed in the ILPA Group company AMP Recycling of Ferrara, is 60,000 tonnes of PET, which ILIP and the ILPA Group companies recover every year, thereby helping achieve Italian and European plastic packaging recycling goals and improving environmental sustainability in the communities in which they are based and operate directly and on the markets serviced. Here and now.

All in complete compliance with European legislation governing employment, health, the environment and consumer protection.
