ILIP AT FRUIT ATTRACTION 2022: SUSTAINABILITY IS THE ORDER OF THE DAY

On 4th, 5th and 6th October, ILIP will be in Madrid at one of the world’s most important fruit and vegetable trade fairs. The spotlight will be firmly on two new R-PET products, Life+ bioactive and the all-round commitment to the circular economy.

Valsamoggia (BO), xy September 2022 – ILIP, the ILPA Group company, leader in Europe in the transformation of plastic materials, will be taking part in the forthcoming edition of Fruit Attraction, the international fruit and vegetable fair, to be held at the Madrid trade fair from 4th to 6th October 2022. The booth, which is situated at position 9B11 will allow visitors to gain an extensive overview of the group’s commitment to the circular economy, which takes concrete form in the products and production processes.

Indeed, the Closed Loop R-PET project will be on display, with which ILIP promotes a circular economy of packaging. With an installed recycling capacity of approximately 60,000 tonnes post-consumer PET per year in a closed system, this project takes concrete form in the T2T R-PET® strategy, with the acronym standing for “tray to tray” in recycled PET, i.e. r-PET trays produced by recycling other R-PET or post-consumer PET trays.

In Madrid, moreover, visitors can find out all about the EcoDesign Reduce project, whereby the company is committed to downgauging, namely reducing the use of plastics by reducing packaging thickness and weight without compromising performance, safety, convenience for the consumer, hygiene, and shelf life of the packaged foods. Indeed, “Reduce” is one of the 3 Rs of ILIP in the approach taken to environmental responsibility, together with “Recycle” – as in the case of PET – and “Renewable resources” with the use of bioplastics as an alternative to fossil polymers.

Of all products, plenty of space will be given to the new lighter versions of the various models of clamshell SetB33 punnets and the heat-sealable punnet B40. This latter, in its 15g R-PET ECO PLUS version is currently subject to an LCA study and will soon receive its environmental product declaration (EPD).

In addition, the company will be highlighting its active Life+ bioactive packaging, which has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties meaning it can extend the shelf life of fresh, packaged fruit by up to 48 hours more than equivalent, non-active packaging. And this system can be applied to all types of solutions (top seals, clam shell, flow pack and stretch film), using natural-origin substances declared GRAS and compliant with European and national regulations on “food additives, flavourings used in food products”.

“We are very proud to be back in Madrid, unveiling the projects in which we invest most, and which best embrace our philosophy of sustainability”, Nicola Ballini, Sales Director of ILIP confirms. “Our booth is ready to welcome all our customers and visitors who, just like us, want to make a real commitment to a proper circular economy”.

From 4th to 5th October, it will therefore be possible to discover all the circular innovations and solutions on which ILIP is working at booth 9B11 of Fruit Attraction at the Madrid trade fair.
