ILIP AT FRUIT LOGISTICA 2022

The appointment is for the 5th, 6th and 7th April for the world leading trade fair in the fruit and vegetable sector, where ILIP will be present with its R-PET products and the all-round commitment to the circular economy.

Valsamoggia (BO) 21 March 2022 – ILIP will be taking part in the forthcoming edition of Fruit Logistica, the most important event for the global fruit and vegetable business to be held from 5th to 7th April 2022 at the Berlin trade fair. The stand, situated in pavilion 5.2, stand C-02, holds a new position and features a brand new layout, having undergone a complete overhaul from previous editions. ILIP’s presence at the fair will be marked by an extensive overview of the group’s commitment to the circular economy, which takes concrete form in the products and production processes.

ILIP’s commitment to the circular economy includes its T2T R-PET® strategy, with the acronym standing for “tray to tray” in recycled PET, meaning r-PET trays produced by recycling other r-PET or post-consumption PET trays. ILIP in fact aims to close the loop. On the one hand, by producing r-PET punnets from recycled trays, punnets and bottles, and on the other, vertically integrating the r-PET supply chain thanks to a cutting-edge recycling plant, where it mechanically recycles post-consumption PET food bottles and food containers to obtain secondary raw materials in the form of flakes. Today, the group has a PET recycling capacity of 60 thousand tonnes a year, which helps reduce the impact of plastic packaging waste, as well as achieve local, national and European recycling and the switch towards a circular economy.

Extensive room will be given over to the B40ECO, the 16g, heat-sealable punnet made from 92% r-PET, which has recently had its environmental product declaration (EPD) updated. The process involved the analysis of its life cycle and saw an improvement in the reduction of the carbon footprint by 36%, equating to 27kg less CO2 equivalent for 1,000 punnets.

In addition to the usual display of the three product ranges, namely punnets, trays and fruit nest trays, another of the key ILIP products present at Fruit Logistica is ezy:split, the first hybrid punnet made from R-PET and cardboard, a solution that can reduce packaging weight by 40-45% in its “plastic” component, which facilitates the separation of the plastic from the cardboard to improve recycling and allows for extensive communication possibilities. The latest evolution of ezy:split is the solution with the built-in cardboard handle with a view to assuring convenience for packers and consumers.

In addition, the company will be highlighting its active Life+ bioactive packaging, which has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties meaning it can extend the shelf life of fresh, packaged fruit by up to 48 hours more than equivalent, non-active packaging. And this system can be applied to all types of packaging solutions (top seals, clam shell, flow pack and stretch film), using all natural-origin substances declared GRAS and compliant with European and national regulations on “food additives, flavourings used in food products”. In particular, chitosan is used, a natural polysaccharide, as well as various natural plant extracts containing flavonoids and polyphenols.

On 5th, 6th and 7th April, it will therefore be possible to discover all the circular innovations and solutions on which ILIP is working at Pavilion 5.2, Stand C-02 of Fruit Logistica at the Berlin trade fair.
