ILIP FOCUSES ON BERRIES WITH ITS NEW TS RANGE AND THE SPONSORSHIP OF GLOBAL BERRY CONGRESS

ILIP has sponsored the international London congress and launched its new range of heat sealing “TS” punnets made of r-PET, designed for the packaging of delicate products.

BAZZANO (24 April, 2012) – This is the year of berries for the ILIP division of ILPA Srl, one of the leading European companies in the production of thermoformed plastic packaging for fruit, vegetables and food in general. The company from Bazzano decided to support the Global Berry Congress held in London on April 26th.

ILIP was present in the congress with its own logo on promotional materials and on the website. The ILIP delegation, consisting of Mauro Stipa, Enrico Cristoni and Alberto Compagnoni, had the opportunity to meet the main players in the berries market, establishing close relationships useful for the development of the company’s business in this field.

The company’s interest in berries is the response to a long term strategy, which ILIP has been following for some time, aiming to create added value for the packaging itself and for packaged product. After manufacturing bespoke punnets with lids for the Cooperativa Sant’Orsola, an Italian cooperative that is a leader in the berry sector, the Bologna company has recently launched its new TS range made of r-PET, for heat sealing packaging.

This new range, which includes four shapes and different depths, from 125 to 1,000 grams of product, has been designed taking into consideration the characteristics of delicate products, such as wild berries and strawberries, as well as the needs of heat sealing packaging. The technical-functional solutions used in this range, such as the vertical openings in relief from the base and the ribss in the corners and at the base of the punnet ensure excellent ventilation even when an absorbent pad is used or when the packages are stacked. They also result in high mechanical resistance and in perfect machinability. In addition, the corners of the inner ribs are blunted to avoid damaging the product.

ILIP punnets are also environmentally friendly. Heat sealing packaging requires no lids, which means no extra raw material. In addition, as they are made of at least 80% of recycled PET, the energy required to process the raw material, and therefore the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, is cut down by two thirds. Finally, a particularly protective, well ventilated packaging such as TS punnets could improve products shelf life and, therefore, food waste.

“Dealing with delicate products such as berries in packages designed to protect them and to transport them in safe conditions also means protecting the environment”, explained Roberto Zanichelli. “Fighting food waste is a fundamental ethical issue today and an important point in our scenario of social and corporate responsibility”.
